Numbers Diary · October 2026

Thirty-two songs, thirty-nine artists, 56 years of music

The month with the widest span ever recorded between one song and another.

Thirty-two songs crossed a billion streams on Spotify in October 2026, brought there by thirty-nine different artists. The Billion Club's total rises to 1,428 songs. But the real thread of the month isn't the count — it's the range: no issue of the Diary has ever spanned such a wide chronological window.

Fifty-six years in one month

The oldest song this month, the Beatles' Let It Be, dates to 1970; the newest, BTS's SWIM, is from 2026 — the first 2026 release to reach Billion status. Between the two: 56 years of music, the widest span ever recorded in a single month of new entries.

It's not just a chronological curiosity: seven of the thirty-two songs — more than one in five — predate the year 2000, a sign of how much the historical catalog keeps finding new audiences on Spotify. The rest cluster mostly in the 2010s (fourteen songs, 43.8% of the month) and the 2020s (nine songs, 28.1%).

The Hall of Fame's month

On the Hall of Fame front, this is Bad Bunny's month: with two songs — A Tu Merced and CÓMO SE SIENTE (Remix) — he reaches 38, extending his lead as the club's only Legend even further. Taylor Swift hits 29 with ME!, one song away from the next tier.

Among the Icons, Lana Del Rey joins with her tenth song, Diet Mountain Dew. Among the Greats, Lil Baby reaches the 5 mark with Freestyle, while Ozuna climbs to 9 — right on the doorstep of the Icons — and BTS, J. Cole and Black Eyed Peas also move.

Twelve first times

Twelve artists reached their first Billion Song this month:

  • Dolly Parton — Jolene (1973, Country pop)
  • Redbone — Come and Get Your Love (1974, Funk rock)
  • Hombres G — Devuélveme a Mi Chica (1985, Classic rock)
  • Alejandro Fernández — Qué Voy a Hacer Con Mi Amor (2002, Latin pop)
  • Far East Movement, The Cataracs and Dev — Like A G6 (2010, House)
  • Hippie Sabotage — Devil Eyes (2015, Indie pop)
  • Natalia Lafourcade — Hasta La Raíz (2015, Latin pop)
  • Dent May — featured on Eyedress's Somethink About You (2020, Indie pop)
  • Suki Waterhouse — Good Looking (2022, Indie pop)
  • KATSEYE — Gabriela (2024, Dance-pop)

Genres and borders

This month's most represented genre is indie pop (five songs), followed by dance-pop and reggaeton (four songs each). October also looks beyond the United States, which still leads with twenty-four artists: next come Puerto Rico (five), then Mexico, the Philippines, South Korea and the UK (two each), plus Canada, China, Spain and Sweden with one artist each. Far East Movement, a multinational group, counts toward more than one nationality at once — hence the small gap against the month's thirty-nine total artists.
